TCP Retransmission Monitoring and Configuration Tuning on AI3 Satellite Link
نویسندگان
چکیده
The AI project aims to achieve effective and fair bandwidth usage of its relatively narrow satellite links by all the partners in this project and the best possible end-to-end communication quality under limited resources. It is difficult to realize them as the operation of it is shared by all the partners with heterogeneous traffic demands and policies, as the network includes many traffic engineering(TE) facilities for traffic shaping or priority queuing in various points. In this paper we monitor the retransmission rate of TCP flows in a passive mode to obtain estimated packet loss rate of each flow and partner, and try to analyze the actual reason that affects end-to-end communications in a real-world environment. The results obtained in this paper is considered as a first step of reflecting TCP retransmission monitoring to improve operation, focusing on a certain partner, ITB, who has the largest traffic demand in AI. The effectivity of the method is approved by the experimental configuration tuning.

Effectiveness of TCP SACK, TCP HACK and TCP Trunk over satellite links
This paper reports the study on the performance enhancements of two extensions to the standard TCP implementation Selective Acknowledgement (SACK) and Header Checksum (HACK) over satellite links that are characterized by high latency and high bit error rate. We also examine the effectiveness of TCP Trunk, an edge-to-edge aggregation and congestion control mechanism, over the satellite link. Our...
متن کاملOn the impact of link layer retransmission schemes on TCP over 4G satellite links
We study the impact of reliability mechanisms introduced at the link layer on the performance of transport protocols in the context of 4G satellite links. Specifically, we design a software module that performs realistic analysis of the network performance, by utilizing real physical layer traces of a 4G satellite service. Based on these traces, our software module produces equivalent link laye...
متن کاملParameter tuning, study and performance evaluation of TCP algorithms over geostationary satellite channels
The paper presents a study and a performance analysis of a modified version of the TCP (Transport Control Protocol) over a GEO (Geostationary Orbit) satellite link where the delay in the delivery of a message is very large. The Round Trip Time (RTT) is above 500 ms. TCP has not been designed for these network characteristics: the high delay to receive acknowledgements decreases performance and ...
متن کاملEffects of Receive Buffer Size and Timer Granularity on TCP Performance over Erroneous Links in a LEO Satellite Network Effects of Receive Buffer Size and Timer Granularity on TCP Performance over Erroneous Links in a LEO Satellite Network
This master thesis presents a preliminary investigation into the impact of TCP’s advertised receive buffer size and timer granularity on TCP performance over an erroneous link in a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite environment. Conducted simulations include over 200 different combinations of TCP flavor, advertised receive buffer size, timer granularity, and bit error rates. Results show that TCP ...
متن کاملStudy and Performance Evaluation of TCP Modifications and Tuning over Satellite Links
Absrracl The paper presents a study and an analysis of the performance offered by TCP over a GEO (Geostationary Orbit) satellite link. The characteristics of satellite channels (notably the large round trip delay) heavily influence the TCP flow control, which is essentially based on the acknowledgments. The effect is a delay in the acknowledgement reception and, consequently, in the delivery of...
